UK Garage Amsterdam
Two-step, shuffle and rolling sub-bass. Breakglass is one of the crews playing UK garage in Amsterdam.
What UK Garage is
UKG took the soulful house coming out of New York in the early 90s, sped it up and chopped the drums. The result is the two-step: instead of a four-on-the-floor kick, garage drops beats out and lets the bassline and shuffle fill the gaps. Add a pitched-up vocal and a rubbery sub and you've got it. It's swung and playful — a break from years of four-on-the-floor on European floors.
UK garage in Amsterdam
For a long time garage in Amsterdam was something you heard secondhand — a record in a set, a rumour from London. That's changing. A younger crowd has gone looking for something other than big-room techno and tech-house, and landed on UKG nights closer to a house party than a club. Small rooms, big sound systems, people who know the tunes.
Breakglass came out of that shift. We're an Amsterdam Noord collective playing techno and UK garage. Small room, proper sound system.
UK Garage nights with Breakglass
Our UKG sets cover two-step, classics and rolling basslines. We treat it as current music, not nostalgia.
Our launch party is 25 July at De Roze Tanker in Noorderpark, with Jordan G on UK garage. Doors 17:00–23:00, an independent cultural space in a former petrol station.
