Underground Music Amsterdam
Underground music in Amsterdam is less a genre than a way of doing things — collectives over corporations, the record over the brand. Breakglass is one small part of it, working out of Amsterdam Noord.
What "underground" means here
Underground music in Amsterdam is the stuff that happens because people care, not because a calculation said it would sell. The size of the room has nothing to do with it.
A party isn't treated as a product. The lineup comes first; the branding comes last.
Collectives vs commercial clubs
A commercial club books whatever fills the room on a Saturday. A collective books to its own taste. An independent collective answers to its crowd, not a venue's quarterly numbers — the lineup makes sense, the crowd knows the tunes.
Big venues do things small crews can't. But a collective can take risks a commercial operation won't: an unknown selector at peak time, two genres in one night, a venue with more character than capacity.
Where Breakglass fits
We started Breakglass to put on the nights we wanted to go to. Techno and UK garage, side by side, in independent spaces across Amsterdam Noord. Real sound systems, fair doors, long sets.
Our launch party is 25 July at De Roze Tanker, doors 17:00–23:00, an independent cultural space in Noorderpark. Alec, GunBau, Jordan G and Xarlee across the night.
